What Is Alcohol Use Disorder?

A person with alcohol use disorder has a chronic brain disease; they lose control of their drinking and keep drinking despite negative consequences. It isn’t a lack of willpower or moral failing. Addiction treatment can help with the chemical changes in your brain that lead to:

  • Feeling lack of control
  • Heavy/binge drinking
  • Needing more to get drunk
  • Drinking alone or in the morning
  • Hiding drinking from others
  • Stopping activities to drink
  • Hurt relationships or career
  • Withdrawal symptoms

Alcohol Rehab Programs in Atlanta

Recovery is incremental. Our alcohol rehab programs help you tackle each stage and facet of this process to ensure the best chance at lasting sobriety.

How We Approach Alcohol Addiction Treatment

At The Recovery Village Atlanta, we treat the whole person — not just their addiction. Our approach is backed by research and results, then personalized to meet each person’s needs.

One-on-One Counseling

Our counselors work with each patient to address their physical, mental and emotional symptoms and find the root of their addiction.

Peer Support

Patients attend group therapy to get support, guidance and fellowship from others who understand what they’re facing.

Continuum of Care

People are more likely to relapse if they leave treatment before they’re ready. Patients step down to lower levels of care as they get better so they have the right amount of support.

Purposeful Downtime

Downtime is an important time to reflect, form connections with peers and develop hobbies that support recovery. Recreational therapies like yoga support these goals.

Healing Meals

Many patients face nutritional deficits after excessive alcohol use. Our chef creates delicious, nutritious meals to meet each patient’s needs as they recover.

Relapse Prevention

Recovery doesn’t end when you leave treatment. Our aftercare program includes patient-specific relapse prevention plans, referrals, recommendations and follow-up.

Sobriety from a high dollar drug since August 2023! I wouldn’t have made it this long if it weren’t for the tools given here. Most of the staff was caring and compassionate. There was a male nurse who must have misunderstood me when I told him I had A LOT of blood in my urine with a history of kidney stones. Then when I got to the ED I had a paper saying where I was from and NO PAIN meds were given.

This rehabilitation center changed my life. I wouldn’t be so far along in my recovery if not for this program. Everything and every place is what you make it. They give you the tools and support you need to succeed. It was like family. Thank you DJ and all the other counselors that helped me get to where I am now in my recovery process, and also the staff that dedicate their time to help. I’ve learned so much about myself, addiction, and of course cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy! I would definitely recommend this program to anyone battling addiction. I was scared at first and didn’t know if it would work, but I am 8 months clean now and I know it was because I stuck it out at RVA!

I had an amazing experience. My only complaint would be getting the medication right on the first day especially for those who came in with their meds. It took a week to straighten this out.

I have experienced exponential growth during a tumultuous process of change. I have rediscovered the person I was before the chaos of addiction took control of my life. After identifying the root causes of my addiction and addressing issues that I refused to accept because I was incapable of accepting the reality that I was a severely depressed individual suffering from anxiety and running from the reality that every decision I made in life led me exactly where I was, I began my journey to reclaiming control of my life. Being duel diagnosed with anxiety, depression, alcohol and substance dependence , a treatment plan was made. By working together with the clinical, therapeutic ,and behavioral teams I was able to learn how to accept responsibility for the role that my lifestyle choices, poor self-efficacy, lack of coping skills were the root causes and my addiction was the result. Working closely with my individual therapist Racheal and a team of professionals, I met my issues head on and began learning how to manage my emotions and alternatives for coping with life in a logical and rational manner. Each member of the team I worked with met me with enthusiasm and passion. They were empathetic to my individual treatment needs and never gave up on me even when I was ready to give up on myself. I was pushed outside of my comfort zone. I Learned how to identify and regulate emotions. I learned coping skills and communication skills that are essential in navigating life. I learned to recognize the value I hold as an individual. Codependency and the need for outside validation was addressed. Past trauma was resolved. I rediscovered who I was and now look at life in a new way. I came through these doors irritable discontented and demanding relief. I am grateful that I did. A special thanks Jasmine and all the other kind souls that that taught me that grace is sufficient for our weakness. Thank you to everyone that was a part of this journey. No matter our past, we have a spotless future.
