Drug & Alcohol Medical Detox in Atlanta

Don’t take on withdrawal alone. Medical detox at The Recovery Village Atlanta makes withdrawal as safe and comfortable as possible to help you avoid relapse during detox.

What Is Medical Detox?

Medical detox is the fundamental first step in your recovery process. During detox, the body rids itself of drugs and alcohol, often leading to uncomfortable or even dangerous withdrawal symptoms. Our medical team provides 24/7 supervision and treatment for symptoms to make detox as safe and comfortable as possible.

I had an amazing experience. My only complaint would be getting the medication right on the first day especially for those who came in with their meds. It took a week to straighten this out.

I have experienced exponential growth during a tumultuous process of change. I have rediscovered the person I was before the chaos of addiction took control of my life. After identifying the root causes of my addiction and addressing issues that I refused to accept because I was incapable of accepting the reality that I was a severely depressed individual suffering from anxiety and running from the reality that every decision I made in life led me exactly where I was, I began my journey to reclaiming control of my life. Being duel diagnosed with anxiety, depression, alcohol and substance dependence , a treatment plan was made. By working together with the clinical, therapeutic ,and behavioral teams I was able to learn how to accept responsibility for the role that my lifestyle choices, poor self-efficacy, lack of coping skills were the root causes and my addiction was the result. Working closely with my individual therapist Racheal and a team of professionals, I met my issues head on and began learning how to manage my emotions and alternatives for coping with life in a logical and rational manner. Each member of the team I worked with met me with enthusiasm and passion. They were empathetic to my individual treatment needs and never gave up on me even when I was ready to give up on myself. I was pushed outside of my comfort zone. I Learned how to identify and regulate emotions. I learned coping skills and communication skills that are essential in navigating life. I learned to recognize the value I hold as an individual. Codependency and the need for outside validation was addressed. Past trauma was resolved. I rediscovered who I was and now look at life in a new way. I came through these doors irritable discontented and demanding relief. I am grateful that I did. A special thanks Jasmine and all the other kind souls that that taught me that grace is sufficient for our weakness. Thank you to everyone that was a part of this journey. No matter our past, we have a spotless future.

From Audrey, to Astella, Dee, Jimmy, Jenna, and Vallery, Dwayne, to Jon I have never felt more safe. The staff cared for me until I learned to care for myself. No words can encompass the way I have felt about the people who are my tribe in this journey. You are all rockstars and you all have a special place in my new heart where all the brokenpieces have been put back together and made me feel whole for the first time. This is priceless, this is complete. Thank you and love you all! Delena

Honestly one of the better places that I’ve been for treatment. A majority of the staff is awesome and very understanding, the techs are great and make your stay the most comfortable they can. The detox portion is honestly one of the most comfortable detox’s I’ve ever been at. They try to make it as painless and easy as they can to help you get off of whatever it is you’re coming off of and you can relax and you’re not required to go to groups while in detox like most other places force you to do ( you can if you want but it’s not required) there are tv’s in the detox rooms so it really is the most comfortable detox I’ve been at and I’ve been to a lot. Smoking is aloud here which is a definite plus compared to other places which have stopped it. Your are also permitted to use your own cell phone after a 72hr black out period which is a big plus most all places do not allow this. Throughout the whole program of residential and PHP you get more freedom the further through the program you are. This really is I would say is a very luxurious rehab located in a good area. I want to give a huge shoutout to some of the staff specifically like Chef D and Chef Brie amazing food always. Techs lance (who is very understanding) and coupe. Watch out if you keep snacks in your room for like late night when your hungry Dwane will room raid and take all of them lol. Huge shoutout to the therapists especially Destiny who helped me a lot and Jada. And Ally who is director over the therapist. I would highly recommend this place to anyone struggling with addiction and if I ever needed help again this is the place I will be going.

FAQs About Medical Detox

How long is medical detox?

The time it takes to complete detox varies depending on the substance used, withdrawal symptoms and physical health of the patient. Most patients complete their medical detox in 7–10 days.

Can I detox at home?

We do not recommend detoxing at home. Withdrawal can be uncomfortable and demotivating, leading to relapse. Certain substances, like alcohol or benzodiazepines, have withdrawal symptoms that are potentially fatal without immediate medical care.

Does medical detox work?

Yes, medical detox offers a drug- and alcohol-free environment and 24/7 medical supervision to ensure your detox is successful. However, detox is only the first step in addiction treatment and you’ll need further care to continue on the path to long-term recovery.

Will I receive methadone, suboxone, etc. during detox?

The Recovery Village Atlanta does offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT), as medically appropriate. Your clinical team will determine your needs and eligibility to see if MAT is right for you.

How can I pay for medical detox?

Insurance may cover some or all of the cost of medical detox. Without insurance, The Recovery Village Atlanta can work with you on private payment options.

Will I lose my job if I attend medical detox?

There are several laws in place that protect employees when they attend detox and rehab.
